wild, wild west
I come from a long line of cowboys and cowgirls. growing up on ranches and ATVs, I spent my childhood in the mountains. Rodeo is in my blood, as is the terrain of the albertan back country.
Identity is a funny thing. Sometimes we need to grow up and go away to have the perspective to look back and understand who we are. When I was young I was set on exploring art, music and dance. I always thought I was out of place being in a very sporty and outdoorsy family. I didn’t realise then that we can hold multitudes within us. I immigrated to Australia and the separation from the land and way of life of my home made me realise that culture runs deep. With every trip back home I revelled in my story. I can be an artistic weirdo who is also a cowgirl. I can have tattoos, piercings, rock Doc Martens and love the smell of pine trees. I can adore living in a city but surprise you with my mud boggin’ skills. We are all multifaceted and I take great pleasure photographing these multitudes.
